WOYWW #207 Die storage

What's on Your My Work Desk Wednesday
Next week is the 4th anniversary of this work desk sharing and we are making an ATC to share. Last year I made over 100 to share with anyone who was interested. This year I am a little occupied  with Design Team commitments as well as studying for a course for my work. You can read all about the ATC 4th anniversary and instructions HERE.
So I still can't share my desk with you because I have nothing on it LOL but I can share with you how I store my Spellbinders Dies

I was introduced to these DVD cases a year ago by Lana Murray from K.I.S.S. and it's been one of the best storage systems I've invested in. I cut out all the dies so I have something to go on as to what the designs look like IRL. I was gobsmacked and amazed at some of the dies and what they looked like after I cut them out.
I haven't put magnetic strips to hold the dies in the cases yet, still thinking about it, as the magnets are quite heavy and I am wondering if I can fit 2 sets of dies in one case. I have found this system works best for me as I quite often transport my dies to retreats/craft days etc.
I cut the packets the dies come in and stick them to the spine of the DVD cases for reference. Check out Becca Feeken's die storage system, she goes one step further and colour codes them.

I've pre cut the waxed paper in various sizes that I use to cut out the delicate dies with. In Australia it is only available at Coles supermarkets
My daughters surprised me with a visit for Mother's Day, I had to go out and left this note for them.

Hop on over to Julia's Stamping Ground to visit more desks around the world

Thanks for sharing your die storage. I have an ArtBin case for some of my dies but my Spellbinders mainly go in plastic cd wallets and are stacked in a long fabric cd case. You would not believe how many I have.
Thanks for visiting me

I hope to do more canvas work and I will stick to bright colours....as well I love them hehe. Love your idea on storing your dies, another blogger had the same idea too! Great minds :-). I've never submitted anything for publication, so I think your note is crazy funny.

You are the second person tonight I've seen store dies in DVD cases. What a fab idea.

That microwave in my basement studio is for low-immersion fabric dyeing. If course, it could also heat my coffee, too.

I don't have any Spellies, but my Tim H ones take up lots of room, (one day) I will sort them out... Love the note - did it work? Helen, 5

Love the note and storage.
Thanks for popping in to see my desk. Don't worry about it being glass, it's made to withstand a lot of weight and pressure. I got it from IKEA along with the trestles that hold it.

Hi Bridget
what is going on everyone has got really tidy craft tables today. I have just seen on someone elses blog that they are storing their dies the same way as you and they have two sets plus the magnet sheets in the DVD case so that might help you.
Sending hugs on this WOYWW have a great day

Nifty storage idea, 1 Question, the shapes you cut, are they just ones ready to grab when you need them or do you use them as templates to see what the shapes will look like b4 cutting the real ones out?

A great idea for storing your dies - I use the magnetic folders (Marianne I think it's called) but after I filled one up and had to buy a second I decided they were quite expensive, so when the second one is full I shall have to stop buying dies! I might try your idea, especially with the magnetic strip inside to hold them in place. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, hope you have a great week.

Hi Bridget,
Thanks for the earlier visit, I am still trying to figure out what is the best way for me to store my dies. Right now I have them in a binder. They give away free magnet calanders at sporting events and I grab a hand full. These work great for the dies as they are not heavy, but still thinking about different ways, so thanks for sharing your ides.

Deb said...

wow, those dies are beautiful, need to add those to my list! terrible when you have to keep your crafty makes a secret isn't it, luckily, I don't have anyone coming to photograph mine!

Hi Bridget, I am liking your die storage. I guess the cut out ones are to check sizes and to see what they look like on a project which is a great time saver. Thanks for your visit earlier, have a great day. Hugs Mo x #60

Hi Bridget,

Ok, the sign made me laugh! They just want to share their mom's amazing talent with all their friends!!!

I like how you store your dies. I have a suitcase box that I put all my dies and embossing folders in so they are all in one place. That seems to work for me. If I ever get a huge supply of dies I may copy your idea though.

Thanks for visiting me already. Several of you mentioned my "thumb drive" being called "usb drives" and I've heard that term too.

Happy WOYWW

That note is so funny Bridget, love it. I do store my dies on magnetic sheets, they are a bit heavy but I use an A4 (foolscap) size plastic case and can get four sets of dies on each one and the box will hold about 5 magnetic sheets - but I like your idea too. Thanks for your visit. Hugs, Anne x #53

What a good idea to store them in DVD cases. They are so dainty and some even tiny, this would keep them nicely protected. I think I will try this myself.

Hi Bridget, love that pretty die and your die storage solution. I store my die in a cut down lever arch file, each set of dies is on magnetic card then put in a cd wallet with holes punched at the top ready to pop in the file, a file holds about 25 sets which is great for me as I don't have much shelf space.
Thanks for paying me a visit

Those lacy dies are gorgeous. I love DVD cases. I use them for my clear stamps and the few dies that I own.

Cazzy said...

Nothing on your desk, amazing! Happy WOYWW.
I have a load of DVD cases for dies and I put two pieces of magnetic stuff and have two sets in them, my cases are crystal clear ones, one side I have to stick it the other side it sort of clips in. What I do is cut the picture from the packaging to fit, stick that to the magnetic sheet then stick the whole thing to the case, or clip it in depending which side. I need to make labels for the spines though and I need a heap more cases now!

I love your dies too.

Thanks for visiting,

Cazzy x

What a great idea, making a cut of the dies to keep with them and to see how they look IRL! I really need to do that as I think it will help me use my dies more often. Mine are just stored on magnetic sheets on the backs of their original covers, though. If I make cuts then I will have to keep those there, too, I guess. Hmmm. Something to think about. Well, thanks for sharing that and stopping by my desk for a visit already. I appreciated your comment and hope you enjoy the rest of WOYWW! :) Deeyll #166
